Inland - Jars of Clay
by JOC fan I was lucky enough to score an early copy of Inland at the Jars show in Knoxville TN on Aug 17th, and I haven't stopped playing it since! Let me rephrase that: I CAN'T STOP playing it! These guys have been playing together for 20 years now and it's kind of amazing how much they've grown and matured as a band, musicians and writers over the years. Every CD they put out sounds completely different from the last one, yet all their songs weave together in a tapestry of art and compassion, personality, humility and grace that only Jars can deliver! From the moment "Flood" crashed through the barrier between Christian and mainstream radio back in the 90s, it seems like they've spent their career fighting and rebelling against the rules and stereotypes of the so-called "Christian rock" genre, but they've never really been a "Christian rock" band. They're Christians who happen to be in a rock band ... and there's a big difference! Inland marks their escape from all those stereotypes and rules, to the world of just plain great music! It's a masterpiece collection of 12 songs completely unlike anything they've ever released! From beginning to end it haunts and breathes and stirs and addicts, each song telling part of a living story that melts together into a profound picture of love and humanity, tempered with that trademark brutal honesty Jars fans have come to expect! Standouts are the title track "Inland", full of wisdom and longing reminiscent of a father waiting for his prodigal son to come home; the rocking "Loneliness & Alcohol" that will get inside your head and scream your name louder than any brown-bagged bottle; the catchy "Reckless Forgiver" you can't help but tap your leg and sing along to; and the bittersweet whimsy of "Fall Asleep" that makes you feel like you're wandering through the soul of a classic children's book! These guys are awesome (not only talented, but quite possibly the nicest guys in music; there is no pretense with them)! This CD is awesome! Go get your copy, and go see them live when they come around on tour! You won't be disappointed!!! by johnwehrle After hearing a number of these songs live and online, i'm really excited about this new album from Jars…There are few bands where I buy the entire album without hesitation. This is one of those bands…they have a great sound with insightful lyrics that just make life better…I hope this jump starts the second half of their career. by bachchamp YOU NEED TO ADD THIS ALBUM TO YOUR LIBRARY.
